After conceding a massive lead in the first innings, India fought back well to come back by dismissing the hosts for 105 and has given themselves a chance to win the first test and take lead. With two days remaining in the test match, India vs New Zealand Day 3 match is unlikely to be ended as a draw.
None of the New Zealand batsmen were comfortable. Mohammed Shammi was successful penetrating through opening pair by sending Rutherford back to pavilion in the first over for a duck. NZ future Kane Williamson was dismissed under fifty for the first time. New Zealand skipper McCullumn was lucky to be dropped out by Murali Vijay in the last over before lunch at the slips but couldn’t capitalize on it. At lunch New Zealand were 15 for 4.
Ross Taylor was the only batsmen who scored 20+ . New Zealand downfall continued after the lunch , At one point of time they were in the danger of getting bowled out for lowest score against India but their last wicket stand resisted with 25 runs which is the best of their partnerships. Ishant Sharma and Mohammed shammi grabbed 3 wickets each and Zak got 2 important wickets of Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson.
New Zealand were all out for105 and set India a target of 407 . M Vijay once again disappointed by edging one to Watling of Tim Southee while he was on 13. S Dhawan got a start after a very long time and batting on 49 at stumps. On the other end, C Pujara was rock solid with an unbeaten 22 at stumps .
India has got plenty of batting left, with nine wickets in hand but it all depends on how they play early hours of day 4 considering day 3 has claimed 16wickets .On the other hand New Zealand would like to capitalise moisture on the pitch in the early hours.
